Freshmen Mentor Day!

A great tradition at NAHS is our Freshmen Mentor Program. Starting even before the 1st day of school, all 9th graders are assigned to peer mentor groups with Junior and Senior Student Leaders who have proven themselves to be great, contributing members of our school community. These groups meet throughout the year to address different issues they're experiencing as they acclimate to life as a high school student. Faculty members volunteer to advise these groups and serve as a support system and provide guidance throughout the year. The Friday before Memorial Day is set aside as "Freshmen Mentor Day" and students take a trip to the "RIP" Collins Athletic Complex to participate in team-building activities. Thanks to Mr. Marck, Mrs. Gagliano, and all the faculty advisors for organizing this great event for our students!

NAHS Students Volunteer for the VFW in Preparation for Memorial Day

On May 6th, in preparation for Memorial Day, Mrs. Gagliano took her Interact Club to the Holy Cross Cemetary to place flags for our fallen heroes. Thank you to Mr. Alho and Mr. Lemise from the V.F.W. for helping to organize such a solemn and respectful experience for our students.

Mrs. Tomko & Mr. Sossin teach about Digital Footprints

Mrs. Tomko and Mr. Sossin's Advanced Computer Applications classes explored the impact of digital footprints on students' lives.  After investigating their own web presence, students created educational posters to spread the word to the Viking community on how to protect themselves and leave a clean digital trail each time they're online or use a digital device. Great job addressing this very important topic!

Health & Wellness Fair at NAHS

On May 16th, NAHS held the first ever Health & Wellness Fair for the community and students of North Arlington. Vendors from local businesses, school clubs, and volunteer organizations from throughout the community came together to promote wellness and healthy living. This is part of our Mental Health Awareness initiatives and we are so appreciative for everyone's support. Thank you to Ms. Rodriguez and faculty members who helped organize this great event!

Stigma-Free Week at NAHS

On Thursday, May 16th, all P.E. classes participated in a Stamp Out Stigma Walk-a-thon. During P.E. classes, students walked outside, holding the Stigma-Free Viking banner, to express solidarity in the face of stigma. All participants received a pledge card to be displayed on our Stamp Out Stigma Wall. This activity is just one of many this week to acknowledge mental health awareness month. The week will culminate with the Community Health & Wellness Fair on Thursday afternoon in the NAHS Gym. Thanks to Ms. Rodriguez and all who helped put these great events together!

Red4Ed

While other schools across the nation are fighting for better public school standards the BCEA has asked Bergen County Public schools to take part as a sign of solidarity and to promote our Pride and Support for our Public Schools. We are so proud of our teachers and work they do on a daily basis. We were all proud to wear red today!

Viking Voucher Program Takes Flight

Since the Spring Pep Rally on April 5th our Guidance Department, Curriculum Office, and faculty members have implemented the new Viking Voucher Program as a way to highlight and reward the positive behaviors our students demonstrate on a daily basis. Teachers award the vouchers to any student "getting caught" doing something good and the Guidance Dept. gives out vouchers to those who have perfect attendance or are excelling academically. During the month of April, there were 412 vouchers submitted and 10th grader, Zavian Rivera was randomly chosen and won a gift card to Applebee's! He received his voucher for his perfect attendance last month.

Mother's Day Tea Volunteering

On Saturday, May 11th our students volunteered to help out at the Mother's Day Tea held held by the North Arlington Emblem Club.   Part of the beauty of the day was watching our students (see photo) serve and support the club with their community service efforts.  Our students were in charge of setting up, serving the guests, and they worked so diligently to make every guest comfortable!

So many in attendance complimented our Vikings!  It was a proud moment and a lovely day!
